why am I so tired after receiving dental Implants

Although it’s a common and straightforward treatment, receiving dental implants is still a surgical procedure. This means that your mouth and the rest of your body will require time to heal in between appointments and after everything is officially done. Recovery is important to ensure that you get back to functioning normally and without complications.

What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are often recommended by dentists for those who are missing one or multiple teeth. A simple dental implant is composed of three parts: the implant screw, the connecting piece (abutment), and the artificial prosthetic. The implant screw is surgically installed into your jawbone. Over time, the screw and your bone fused together to create an extremely stable foundation that supports your smile. Both the implant screw and the abutment are made from titanium, a material that’s compatible with the human body. As for the prosthetic, it’s typically fashioned from porcelain or composite resin so that it blends in with the rest of your smile.

Receiving dental implants from a dental clinic in Yellowknife requires two separate appointments. During your initial visit, your dentist will examine your teeth and gums and have some x-rays taken to establish a comprehensive image of your oral health and the extent of care that you require. Once your mouth has been cleaned and you’ve been given local anesthesia to keep you comfortable, the implant screw and the abutment will be installed in your mouth.

You’ll need time for your mouth to heal and for osseointegration, or bone growth, to take place. This process may take a few weeks before you can return to have the artificial prosthetic placed.

To learn more about this process, talk to a dentist near you. They’ll be able to identify whether this treatment is the best course of action for your unique dental case.

Recovering From Dental Implant Surgery

Upon receiving your implants, you may feel tired and groggy, but don’t worry; this is completely normal. Between the effects of the anesthesia and the invasiveness of the surgery, your body isn’t used to each of these things. That’s why it’s a good idea to have someone there to take you home after your appointment.

Always be sure to follow the instructions given to you by your dentist. They’ll most likely recommend that you take the rest of the day off.

The after-effects of this treatment are different from person to person. That said, here’s a brief breakdown of the recovery process and what you might experience during that time:

The first 24 hours:

You’ll feel tired, and, once the numbing wears off, which can take anywhere from one to four hours, the surgical site will most likely be sore. Sleeping and taking Advil or Tylenol will help with this. Also, be sure to only eat soft foods.

Days 1 to 3:

Your face may begin to swell or exhibit signs of bruising during this stage. Pressing a cold pack against your cheek can reduce these symptoms. Eating is important to build up your strength, but you should still avoid hard foods.

Days 3 to 7:

In the week that follows, any swelling and inflammation will disappear; the same goes for any oral discomfort. Your mouth should be adjusted to your new implants. You may still feel a bit tired, and that’s alright. Slowly begin to get back to your normal routine.

Days 7 to 14:

After this amount of time passes, you can start reintroducing other foods into your meals. You shouldn’t be experiencing any bleeding or swelling either. Brief periods of exercise are also good to build your energy back up.

Two weeks or more:

You should be good as new by this time including engaging in regular exercise and eating as you normally would.

If any issues should arise, or you have questions or concerns, be sure to reach out to your dentist.
